Eight of Swords

Since auronlu's Love Her and Despair is getting a remaster, I definitely had to give this illustration one, too!

I've considered doing one of those "draw this again" things before except that I'm always really embarrassed by my old art. I was kind of surprised to realize that it's only been seven years since the original version, buuut pretty much the entirety of Guardian happened in that time so I've had a lot of practice!

It's an amazing improvement. I like the colour palette in the new image.

Oh good. I wouldn't post the old one (which I still love, even if you have leveled up in art skills tremendously; your less polished style reminds me of the Maurice Sendak's illustrations in my copy of The Golden Key). But it is fascinating to see what you've changed and why, even simple things like sinking all the swords more deeply into the snow, or more subtle adjustments like that defiant head-tilt. And of course color, or lack of it, really contributes to the feeling of cold/ice.

(How on earth you got into that position enough to use youurself as a model I don't know.)
