"They are transporting sinspawn for Operation Mi'ihen. Probably not a surprise that Sin attacks about ten minutes into the trip."

Ooo, look at Minty being smart! Somehow this never occurred to me. I never stopped to wonder why Sin attacked the ferry, and if I had stopped to wonder, I probably would've thought, "Tidus is aboard," without remembering what was in the hold.

Check to see if you can go into the Power Room on the ferry to Luca. (Also check the wheelhouse, which has another primer). If you miss the power room primer, it magically transports itself near Wakka's lean-to in the Bikanel Desert.

Hmm. Thinking back, you're right, Lulu does do the prayer-bow less often than Yuna. (She still prayed at the shrine when they left). Lulu's faith fascinates me. I think she retains a very strong core deep down: she'll atone when she thinks she's truly "transgressed," and she's shocked when the entire foundation of the pilgrimage proves to be a lie. But she is certainly pragmatic enough to understand that prayers don't save lives, that individual church members may be corrupt, and that the Al Bhed are not necessarily eeeeevil.

I think you can try pestering Kimahri again on the next ferry.

Yes, Braska dying for Spira probably saved his daughter from a life of discrimination on all sides. A bitter irony which he handled with quiet grace. (Seymour's mother was trying to accomplish the same thing, but Seymour balked.)

I imagine Lulu doesn't feel the need to confide in others as much as Yuna, Tidus, or even Wakka — she seems a rather private person who keeps her feelings strapped in, so to speak — but yes, even so, she's carrying the weight of two failed pilgrimages along with fears for this one, so it must be difficult maintaining her stoicism. I rather wish that Zuke had stayed long enough for her to chat with him, although I suppose by that time there is Auron. (Then again, much as I like to *cough* build more between them, it's just as likely that she was too proud to confide in him, and that they mostly communicate through glances and silences.)

I love the awkward-small-talk conversation on the boat. SO MUCH LIKE REAL LIFE.

Dad really is VERY INCONVENIENT.

Oh gosh. I missed the fact that Yuna's looking at all her guardians when she assents to the harpoon-plan that may result in their deaths.

Kimahri holding Yuna always makes me smile. Who wouldn't want a big blue kitty protector?

...That FMV. :(

Afterwards: I need to look at that scene again. Is Tidus' head in her lap, or is she kneeling beside him? The angle makes it difficult to tell. I agree, in her lap seems much too intimate. (Even after Suteki Da Ne, they're too shy to be seen holding hands.)

The Sending is definitely the moment that this game hooks us, tightly and irrevocably, if we weren't hooked already. All of it. The magic of walking on water, the grief, all the death/life imagery, and yes, those blue flames. It all makes sense as a ritual, and it's so beautiful and sad.

I always notice Lulu and Kimahri watching without weeping or showing any emotion. Kimahri because he's Ronso, and Lulu because she holds everything in. But she must have seen many painful sendings, and her thoughts must be dwelling on the two she didn't see.

Oh gack, I hadn't noticed Kimahri joining the Underwear Malfunction squad of Final Fantasy. "Spirans. This is not how you do clothes." See also: Baralai, a thoroughly fine-looking young man with one dreadful fashion faux pas.

"Exposition privileges revoked." Yes indeed. You really point up just how much Waffles embarrasses Lulu. She is a proud woman. And yes, it's quite likely that Lulu's been coaching Yuna in her own brand of stoicism.

*also hopes the remaster corrects all the "Lulu fixing Yuna's hair" shots.*

*cheers at Blitzball Kid, a much-needed bit of comic relief after all that*

Kilika's location is one of the unexplained mysteries of FFX. Of course, we know that Sin can actually levitate itself a ball of water and strike anywhere it likes, but still, you might as well not be especially convenient for it to reach.

On the other hand, in the real world, see Japan's seaports. They only get hit by destructive tsunamis once every few generations, not often enough to dissuade people from building homes close to their boats and harbor. :( (See also: mobile homes in Tornado Alley, the millions of people living around Mt. Vesuvius, and all of America's coastal settlements in areas that get hit by hurricanes and storm surges.)

You keep pointing out things that it didn't occur to me to think about. So obvious, and yet, I just never considered: Yuna asking Tidus to be a guardian was just a way to keep him around after Luca. I mean, that's practically what she says, but I hadn't quite grasped her meaning, because I was too busy being interested in Wakka's fabulous reaction shot and Lulu's attempt to deflect Yuna from an embarrassing (to Lulu's mind) mistake.

....and all the other things you said about Big Sister Lulu watching a crush form and being concerned for various reasons.

Whoa, I never noticed that owl statue!

Luzzu and Gatta's pomposity amuses me. I really like both of them, but you get the impression that the island Crusaders, at least, aren't all that tough. Then again, try going into the Ochu battle and using only physical attacks. I have the impression that Lulu's abilities are quite unusual, such that there may be no black mages among the ranks of the Crusaders. In FFX-2, ex-Crusaders like Lucil use Gems to cast magical attacks; she's the only one who ever whips off a black magic spell, and it's a variant of Doom rather than the flare/water/thunder/ultima type attack.

*waves hands incoherently at Lulu laughing.* Not often enough.

Ha ha, I missed the fact that they apparently left Yuna up there. Even Kimahri. Tsk.

Oh, that pavement has the same 6 symbols connected by lines that show up on temple banners. I always wondered if perhaps they were the six temples, including Baaj, but they're never clear enough to see.

When Lulu gets upset, she has a bit of dog-kicking tendencies. :( No wonder Yuna is distressed.

"Then she asks Dona to please leave them alone, which Dona doesn't ever." heee heeee. I disliked Dona so much when I played FFX. I'm so grateful to X-2 for beating me into taking a second look at her. (To my chagrin, I fell for the "dresses like a slut" signal, which of course is judging a woman based on what she wears.)

Lulu is indeed a vivid storyteller. Sigh. That voice. I could listen to her saying depressing things forever.

FUZZLES. PEACHES. YOU. YOU. *giggles*

Lulu not-flinching always makes me grin. (I can imagine her quietly fuming, however.)

Your write-ups are delightful, and I keep laughing. Also, gorgeous screencaps.
