Interesting! "Spirit" has more neutral connotations than "Sin" since it could be good or evil or just a natural force.
I would assume that the focus on atonement is still there though, since that is such a major part of the plot. But an evil spirit is something external you ward off, rather than sin being something internal that you have to atone for.
